Ever since I can remember I have been trying to find ways to cease being employed and to earn my living working entirely from home. There are a number of reasons for this, in fact too many to mention, but I’ll list the main ones.
I travel approximately 70 miles to work each day, work a 12 hour shift, and then travel one and a half hours home. This makes my day into a 15 hour day. I also work 12 hour night shifts with the 90 minute journey tacked onto each end as well. I can tell you that spending 1 ½ hours driving home at seven o’clock in the morning after being awake all night is not the prettiest experience.
But, on the positive side, I only work 24 hours a week, which is basically two shifts per week. However being employed, which the majority of people are, has its problems for me. You get told when you can take a holiday and for how long, If you want a long weekend you have to virtually go begging for the time off. You can work for two weeks and then they pay you at the end. I certainly prefer the idea of being paid before I do the work, or at least whilst I’m doing it.
I’ve employed virtually all my life, and it has its bonuses. Paid holidays, apparent security ( if such a thing exists), and… Well actually that’s about it, I was trying to think of something else but couldn’t.
I love being at home, around to enjoy my wife and children. I’m lucky that I’m not one of these people who has to work 5 ½ or six days a week, but still I don’t want to go to work for ‘any’ days a week. So what do I do to rectify the situation? Well, I’m looking into various Internet marketing techniques, which although they involve a lot of work as well, are enjoyable and productive. This also means that if I want to go on holiday, I can either take my work with me and work remotely, or just forget about it for a couple of weeks, and no harm will come of it.
Taking the plunge and moving towards remote working and running your own business does take some courage in the initial stages, but once you’re committed to it, and you know that that is where you’re going, it’s actually a very fulfilling and satisfying experience. I’m not making a lot of money yet but the trend is upwards.
If you have spare time on your hands, and are fed up with the rat race of employment, consider starting a small home-based business in your spare time with the intention of building it through a full time career as soon as possible. I know that I am extremely excited about the prospect and although I have to put in extended hours sitting at a computer, I know that this work will pay off in the long run. So scare yourself and give it a try.
