Article by Shakib Nassiri Like all our items of everyday clothing have instructions or recommendations as to temperature guidelines, use or not of beach, and tumble drying etc, it is important that we take extra care of our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi, just as we would any item of our favorite clothing. When caring for our BJJ Gis, it is not sufficient just to put it in the washing machine with our normal clothes wash, especially if our chosen Gi is white in color, we cannot afford to accidentally dye it to another color, or a shade of grey. Our Gi should be washed after each training session, as the sport involved a lot of floor work and ground grappling techniques, and we sweat a lot when practicing the sport. If our chosen Gi is white, any dirt will show very soon, and part of the art of Brazilian Jiu Read more...

There is little doubt that companies with the most efficient data management systems make better decisions faster. Geographic Information Systems or GIS Software records information in relation to a physical location and when implemented properly this allows for faster decision-making within companies, associations and Government institutions. This is because the underlying data in GIS Software is presented in a combination of text and visual display such as maps, charts and summary reports which are more easily interpreted than lengthy written reports. Trending and planning just got easier! Why SaaS? In its infancy GIS Software was installed and managed onsite and an internal development was required to maintain server security and software updates. Software as a Service (Saas) has changed this because it is built on the principle of “software on demand”. A SaaS supplier provides customized software solutions which is deployed and maintained using the suppliers own infrastructure and personnel. Read more...

Standard GIS Formats are the structures that are utilized for storing data in a GIS file. Spatial data is a predominant type of data that is stored in standard GIS Formats. Spatial Data refers to the location and characteristics or attributes of a geographic feature that is normally stored as topology and specific coordinates. Specific geographic features can then be viewed as illustrative and descriptive information. Spatial Data is available in many forms such as aerial photography, digital maps, paper maps, and digital satellite images. When transferred or stored in a standard GIS format, the data can then be viewed and manipulated according to the user’s particular purpose. There are a number of GIS formats that can be used for mapping spatial data and they include: Vector Formats: Vector Data represents geographic features as x and y coordinates or X, Y, Z triples, using the coordinate system marked out for Read more...

A geographic information system (GIS) is a system that is composed of specific hardware, software, and experts that are all involved in acquiring, storing, analyzing, managing, and displaying geo-spatial data in a format that can be manipulated and displayed in digital map form. GIS permits the construction of multi map layers for anything that can be connected to a geographic coordinate system. The purpose of GIS is to manage and analyze the mapped data. GIS is now used in any area that requires spatial data collection for the purpose of analysis, manipulation and modeling. Desktop GIS was the choice to display spatial data, however, GIS and the internet has become an increasingly popular choice for viewing and managing spatial data for digital mapping. With the expansion and growth of the internet, more people are taking advantage of GIS with GIS technologies becoming more broadly available. Internet GIS has many benefits Read more...

There’s a powerful tool in the arsenal of disaster mitigation (which includes prevention) systems-the Graphical Information System (GIS) that includes oblique imagery. With this tool, it is possible to look at cities and rural areas as if you were Superman, with the ability to rapidly fly around large areas of land and buildings, and with vision that allows you to rapidly perceive it from all angles. Ways to enter and leave buildings and areas can be quickly identified, even if visibility is poor because of smoke. Oblique-imagery GIS systems make it possible to minimize the impact of an impending disaster, rapidly respond to a disaster in progress and remediate damage more rapidly. There are two major issues: (1) Like all computer systems you the output is only as good as the data fed into the system; and (2) Oblique Imagery GIS systems cost a small fortune to implement and maintain. Read more...

Article by SBL GIS has become somewhat mandatory. Our day-to-day myriad activities of life cannot go on without the helping hands of GIS. Developed recently for the purpose of using and studying geographic information, geography underpins GIS and is the key to understanding it. It expresses and describes the locations of objects and features relating to the distribution and patterns of physical and human features that exist on the Earth’s surface. Modern GIS servicesBefore the advancement of modern GIS, analysis procedures would have been manually undertaken using transparent overlays or run through very slow and incompetent machines with far less power than today’s machines. GIS in the past mainly meant the information obtained from maps. The indispensable advantage of modern GIS is that all the functionality for working with manifold sets of geographic data are assembled and automated within one piece of software with improved efficiency and speed.
Basically defined, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software refers to technology that incorporates geographic features with tabular data in an effort to assess and analyze a variety of problems. While GIS software has practical applications in regards to aerial and satellite mapping, this revolutionary technology is also being applied to uses outside of the mapping industry. Here, we’ll take a look at how this software is making a difference today. Helping Families For families, moving into a new neighborhood is at once an exciting and chaotic time because it involves a new environment and way of living. One of the biggest factors home shoppers consider when looking into new neighborhoods is the type of school district their children will be attending. Information about school attendance and profiles is generally self-reported and forces many would-be home buyers to do their own leg work to determine which school zones will work best for Read more...

A redesign of GIS software is a key step if GIS is to succeed as a tool for supporting spatial thinking in the K-12 context. Among the GIS design issues that must be addressed are the following: Broadening its accessibility to the full range of learners; strengthening the capacity to spatialize nonspatial data; overcoming the visualization weaknesses; providing graded systems of GIS that are age and experience appropriate; redesigning interfaces to be more intuitive and to provide help and guidance; raking the software customizable. The committee recognizes that many of these design challenges are not specific to the K-12 context and that their solution may not occur with that context in mind. Should this be the case, then someone must take responsibility for adapting the solutions to the particular needs of teachers and students. Teachers and students should not be expected to adapt to a one-size-fits-all GIS that does not Read more...

Article by Sarah James GIS, or graphic information system software, can help businesses in many ways. The label GIS applies to a large group of different type of software that can help different businesses in different ways. GIS software can be defined as any software used develop, analyze, manage, or view data from a digital map. As the industry ages, it is becoming increasingly specialized, with various software companies developing niche products to meet the specific needs of certain types of businesses. GIS software falls under one of a few different categories. Typically, the end users will deal with what is termed Desktop GIS, which describes the software used to access and modify any GIS information the company possesses. This is also usually the point of entry for any new data. Those that are simply viewing and utilizing information would use a GIS Viewer, while those whose jobs were to Read more...
